Hi there --

On one of our domains we used to have a mailman list called "[email protected]". We have deleted that list & now we want an autoresponder on the [email protected] address. Have set up the autoresponder, with interval 0 and takes effect immediately. It just doesn't work. Set up a legit email account [email protected]. Still doesn't work.

The autoresponder looks just fine. If I log into the [email protected] webmail the autoresponder shows there too. Emails sent to the account are showing up in the inbox, but autoresponses are not going out.

Exact setup:

character set: utf-8 (i never messed with this, it was the default)
email: [email protected]
from: [email protected] (a real email account)
subject: your message was not posted
html: unchecked
body: Reminder: The former "[email protected]" discussion list has been taken down.

Please re-send your message to [email protected] instead.

(Any questions, just reply to this message)

start: immediately
stop: never

What can I try to make this autoresponder work?

TIA!

I've just tested this, all except formerly having an email list created. I even used a fake email address for the "old" email no longer used. It works for me as expected. No emails to any account, only the auto response sent back to me.
Thanks for testing. I just tested on the same server where I'm having the problem, this time using an e-address that does not have a real account on the server, [email protected]

This autoresponder works fine.

It also works if I set up a real email account for [email protected]

So the problem with the [email protected] autoresponder must be that this used to be the address for a now-deleted Mailman list.

Where can I look on the server to clean this up? Note: I'm pretty much a CLI know-nothing, sorry, but with minimal instructions on where to look and what to edit I do OK

thanks again to anyone who can help

SOLVED: I must have created the autoresponder before Mailman/the server had finished whatever cleanup it needs to do after a mailing list is deleted. I just deleted the nonworking autoresponder and created a new one (with absolutely identical settings) and now it works.
