WHM disk usage for the /backup drive (917 GB) is showing 671 GB used, as does du -sh, but I'm receiving email notifications showing 718.53 GB - 83.45% used. Anyone know what's causing this anomaly?
When cPanel backup finishes doing backup it deletes the oldest backup, according to your backup retention settings. So 718.53 GB is before the old backup is deleted, and 671 GB is after.
What @quietFinn - you'll get the notifications when the disk notification crosses the "warn" threshold as they run overnight, but it will often be significantly less by the time you check the system in the morning as older backups are removed.
Thanks both for the responses - makes sense, as I just noticed the notifications are only sent once daily a few minutes before the "backup process completed" notification.
That sounds right - the very last operation is pruning the previous backups after confirming the new ones are in place.
