I’m sure this is the wrong area, please move this or direct me to the right place, thanks!

As a suggestion consider this change to the “New Security Advisor notifications with ...” emails for:

Code:
New Security Advisor notifications with High importance

Type
Module

Advice
High

Kernel

The system kernel is at version “2.6.32-696.16.1.el6.x86_64”, but an
update is available: 2.6.32-696.18.7.el6.x86_64 Update the system
(run “yum -y update” on the command line), and reboot the system.
Replace:

‘reboot the system.’

with

‘reboot the system by running “reboot -h now”.’ *

Why?:

‘-h’ requests reboot to halt all processes first, so that MySQL (etc.) doesn’t exit un-cleanly.

* Or however your admins think it should be worded…

Best,
Michael

Hi Michael,

As I understand, there are some cases where the "reboot" command isn't recommended (e.g. A VPS provider may prefer the virtual servers are rebooted through a VPS management utility). Thus, the method of reboot can vary depending on the server environment.

Thank you.
