i am not sure how many people have tried the conversion from centos 5.6 with Cpanel/WHM installed to cloudlinux. I tried this last week and this is the worst thing i have done so far. According to the website the conversion should be easy. However, the server would not boot into the cloudlinux kernel after the install. I contacted cloudlinux directly, but it seems as if the people who actually work after business hours (9 - 5 EST) have no clue, so real work can only get done during business hours. This is pretty difficult because obviously this is the worst time to work on your server.

I am having the following issues. if someone here have had these i really would appreciate any help.
The server would not detect the Ethernet adapter. I finally got that to work but none of my sites that have dedicated ip addresses works. I tried removing ips from /etc/ips then re-adding using whm manager but it doesn't seem as if the ips are being bind to the network adapter. I know this because they don't show when i do ifconfig

Also, i constantly get hang and crash notices. for example, exim failed, spamd failed, hchksrvd hang

The server has 4 virtual processors and is hyper-v VM. It worked perfectly for about 3yrs

VERY FRUSTRATED :)

I am sorry about your problem. The real issue is that you are running hyper-v with a VERY OLD kernel. If you try to upgrade to CentOS 5.9 boot into new kernel... well, you would have same kind of problems.
But once you are on latest CentOS kernel -- upgrade to CL will be easy :(

Either way - we are currently trying to improve our scripts to convert from old hyper-v kernels as well. The drivers were renamed in the Integration Components -- so we need to correctly detect it & substitute it.

Thank you all for your responses. I have been trying to work my issues out with the cloudlinux support. Needless to say i am going back to the old days for now. This thing simply has too much glitches for main stream, and i am tired of hearing clients scream at me and my staff for the last three days. The two clients that are resource hogs i am simply going to ask them to get a VPS.

for anyone planning to upgrade to Cloudlinux that have my type of setup, i would recommend you wait before making the move. I had the following issues.

1. my Ethernet adapter wasn't been detected. Once detected, only my shared ip worked. This took me about 1.5 days to get resolved.
2. For new installs, pray you don't have a catastrophic error, because experience tech support personnel doesn't seem to work after 5p.m. EST. Email response is also slow and there is no phone support. For a software that charges monthly, i would say phone support for first time setup is reasonable, but what do i know.
3. imap continued to crash saying it was out of quota. Cloudlinux support said they adjusted the quote issue then told me not to edit the default values in the LVE manager because it was causing this crash and they are working on a fix for it (not something i want to hear on my production server)
4. For some reason, my users could not use their Squirlmail Webmail. They all got errors saying the [preference.tmp] could not be copied
5. i had a heavy user who was slowing down the server (the main reason for getting cloudlinux). even with cloudlinux installed, this user was still slowing down the server. cloudlinux support said i needed to install MySQL Governor. Wouldn't it make sense to already include all this? i don't know maybe there is a reason the exclusion.

Let me end by saying i am not a Linux expert, so maybe this is why things seemed harder for me. just my two cents.

Sorry that we couldn't convert your server:
1. Ethernet adapter issue was due to you running CentOS 5.6 on HyperV -- let me just explain that you were running 3 years old, outdated kernel with root level vulnerabilities. CentOS5.9 doesn't support old HyperV modules, and require re-naming of storage & ethernet modules. I am sorry -- but it is really rare to see someone running such outdated setup -- so, we never had to deal with it before.
I really recommend fixing that. If you are back to your old kernel -- I just wish you luck, and another 3 years of not being hacked. You are really lucky.
2. I am sorry -- but it seems you were running beta version -- to get inodes limits -- they are not yet in production -- hence require development support -- which is not available after 5pm EST. It seems it is also related to your #3 imap issues and #4 issues
4. Yes, MySQL Governor is additional component specific to throttling MySQL users. The default setup includes only websites limits. We don't include CageFS/Governor by default, because introducing too many changes to new system -- is the best way to de-stabilize it. We prefer hosts gradually installing it, one by one on production systems (with new systems -- it is ok to install all of them at the same time).

Hello oblivio
we use centos5.8 in our date center,we face many problem in security therefore we decide to move to cloud linux, in the first time we face many problem specifically when we trying to install cloud linux on hyper -v, so we open a support ticket with cloud linux and they solve the problem for us, now our server is very stable, and its work great, the best solution for you is try to setup cloudlinux on different server so you can check every thing, if you need any help i can give you ".VHD" file you can use it directly in your "hyper -v" the VHD file contain a cloudlinux with cpanel
