cPanel Redhat server hacked into, time for FreeBSD?

Recently my Redhat server was hacked into and there was a rootkit installed called SuckIt. I don't think it has anything to do with cPanel or is cPanels fault in any way. But I have to reinstall an OS and cPanel onto the machine and I wanted to try FreeBSD. I was wondering if anyone could give me any input on how well cPanel runs on FreeBSD? Does it work as well as Redhat does?

I love Redhat + cPanel together. But I feel I will have better security and ease of updating with FreeBSD. I would like to hear some input on the subject.

Thanks!

I know many folks that love BSD. You just have to remember that BSD is NOT linux and you'll have to spend some time learning new shell commands.

Personally i've used SlackWare and Debian, now i only run FreeBSD, it's very easy to use, very secure.
Once you tried it you don't want anything else ;)

which version of freebsd should I run with cpanel?

i was thinking of running freebsd 4.9 since that is what my other servers are moving too.

i'm not ignoring eos1's comment about freebsd4.9 not being as good with cpanel as redhat though. =\

But it is well worth it...

I also have the same setup as Ramsy FreeBSD v5.1 and not having any issues. And in terms of security FreeBSD has tighter security overall.

I'm running pretty good on FreeBSD 5.2 "Looking to go-to 5.2.1 soon though"

When I installed I only had a few troubles with PostgreSQL which I took care of "This was before it was fixed up through cpanel"

right now the only things I found not showing up as perfect are the 2 following things

Frontpage Extensions can't find the path for a few themes
and
during the updates Bind9-Base is unable to be found.

all & all I've ran into no show stoppers running the following.

WHM 9.1.0 cPanel 9.1.0-S86
FreeBSD 5.2-RELEASE - WHM X v2.1.2

This is currently running on Dual Intel 2ghz Xeon CPUs.

Next step... FreeBSD 5.2.1 on an AMD64 :)

Is there any advantage to running 5.2 over 4.9?

I've read that 5.2 is not considered at a "production stage" yet

Thanks for all the input everyone!
