We're working on a process for migrating mailboxes from Windows and non-control-panel servers to our cPanel servers. One dovecot feature that would help a lot is the "master user", with full access to all mailboxes. I tried getting that feature working on our development cPanel server, but without luck. It would authenticate, but then give an error like "Permission denied creating default INBOX". Has anybody got this working, and care to share the magic sauce?

Hello,

Could you clarify the exact issue you are having or the reason you need to configure a master user?

Thank you.

You should be able to run it as "root", without any special dovecot configuration. What error message do you receive when using it?

Thank you.

You will need to have the correct username/password for each account in order to authenticate, but you can create a single file with those credentials to speed up the process, as per the example here:

http://imapsync.lamiral.info/examples/sync_loop_unix.sh

Keep in mind this is a third-party application that we do not support.

Thank you.

Manually updating the dovecot configuration to enable a master user is not supported, but if you list the exact steps you took to make the changes, we might be able to let you know if it should work or not.

Please keep in mind that we don't natively support imapsync, and it's not something that we develop. Thus, we can't guarantee it's going to work easily or work exactly how you need it to. This is outside of our control.

Thank you.

I didn't took any steps. I think the original question is if it's possible at all, and I'm interested in the same.
