How to fix "no glue" for nameservers?

Hello Forum;

Question: Can someone tell me how to fix (see first image below) where it says "None of our local nameservers can be authoritatively resolved, and no glue is provided. This will cause intermittent resolution failures when the cached local NS records are used to resolve your domain."

I am in the learning process regarding DNS particulars. Much of the terminology for DNS records I do not understand. But I am learning (slowly).

I have a cPanel account. I have three domain names hosted. The nameserver I am using is "mydomain.com" - which is one of the three domain names that I have got hosted with my cPanel account. I have got the glue records at the registrar set to mydomain.com (see image at bottom). I have got the IP address for my VPS pointed to mydomain.com in the glue records at the registrar.

Setup for three domains hosted with cPanel license account below

• mydomain.com - hosted with cPanel, using this domain name as the nameserver (i.e. ns1.mydomain.com, ns2.mydomain.com, etc...)
• myotherdomainone.com - hosted with cPanel account (using ns1.mydomain.com, ns2.mydomain, etc... at the registrar)
• myotherdomaintwo.com - hosted with cPanel account (using ns1.mydomain.com, ns2.mydomain, etc... at the registrar)

I would appreciate any guidance someone may provide.

Just to note, without the actual domain name or access to the configuration, help here will be limited.

That said, are you pointing the glue records to IP addresses for nameservers authoritive for your domain name?

Have you created A records for those hosts in that domains DNS zone that point to those IP’s?

Hey there! It certainly looks like you've done everything correctly. When you created the nameservers at the registrar level, did you assign them to the IP addresses?

NOTE: for security reasons, it's best not to share public information, like your domain names, on the Forum, although that does make troubleshooting DNS issues difficult.

I see a domain name in the images you provided and took a look and aside from using the same IP address for all the nameservers, your main issue is missing A records for those hosts in your DNS zone for that domain.

Thanks for responding to my question.

I got my problem figured out yesterday (I think). I set up A records for each ns1.mydomain, ns2.mydomain.com, ns3.mydomain, ns4.mydomain.com and pointed the IP address to each ns record in the DNS zone for mydomain.com. That fixed my problem (it seems).

fixed the problem 5/11/2023 (DNS zone for mydomain.com)
ns1.mydomain.com. 14400 A 00.00.000.00 (Static IP for my VPS)
ns2.mydomain.com. 14400 A 00.00.000.00
ns3.mydomain.com. 14400 A 00.00.000.00
ns4.mydomain.com. 14400 A 00.00.000.00

I have got the glue records set up properly at the registrar; I have got the Static IP for my VSP pointed to the nameservers for mydomain.com.

I have still got a couple of more issues that I am trying to iron the wrinkles out but the above fixed the bulk of my problem.

Forgetting to set the A records for the nameserver hosts is something I see frequently.
