IP Migration Tool questions

I have been reading this:

I am needing to change:

1. server IP
2. the shared IP assigned to all users (to the same as the new server IP)

but NOT the dedicated IPs that have already been assigned from the dedicated IP pool on each server.

If I enter only one IP in the tool's box for new IPs, the tool chooses to assign that one new IP to replace one of the dedicated IPs, not the shared IP (per the resulting matrix.)

Can I edit the matrix the tool displays to null out that entry and add the same IP to the matrix line that contains the current shared IP? The documentation seems to reference viewing the matrix, not editing it.

I would like the current shared IP accounts to work with both the old and new shared IP addresses during the transition. If, after changing the server IP, do I add the old shared IP to the address pool to (re)bind the old IP?

Hello,

You can add the new IP address to the server, and then configure it as the main shared IP address via "WHM >> Basic Webhost Manager Setup". Once you do that, you can then change the IP addresses on a per-account basis using the following option:

"WHM Home » Multi Account Functions » Change Multiple Sites’ IP Addresses"

Could you verify if that works for what you are seeking to accomplish?

Well, I can't fully test it due to the potential impact, but wouldn't what you suggest not allow the shared IP sites to be accessed using their old IP address as well? That was the appeal of the migration tool - to allow time for old DNS cached entries for example to expire. Also some of the sites have DNS managed outside of cPanel and the customers might take a few days to update those entries.

When entering an IP address in the IP Migration Wizard, you should be presented with a separate box for each existing IP address on the system. You can leave the box blank for any IP addresses you do not want migrated to the new IP address.

When you enter a single IP address and then "Continue", it displays the matrix, with all blank IP boxes except the first one (which happens to be a dedicated IP, not the shared IP) changed to a new IP. As long as I can then backspace over that IP and then enter the same IP in the empty box next to the shared IP domain names, I think that will work.
