MYSQL 5.5 To 5.6 Upgrade - Using Much higher memory?

Hi, I just upgraded my server from mysql 5.5 to 5.6. My server memory would always be around 975mb idle. Now after the upgrade it is 1.4gb idle. What is causing this? Does 5.6 use substantially more memory?

I turned off performance_schema in my.cnf and my memory went back down to close to normal. I didn't realize performance schema was a memory hog.

Note that memory usage itself isn't necessarily a bad thing if you don't notice any performance degradation. You can also check out our "Optimization" forum if you would like help optimizing your /etc/my.cnf file.

What is the recommendations as far as performance_schema, better on or better off? Anyone?
