Hi, Any words of wisdom would be welcome.
In the process of migrating to a new host, I have lost access to a password protected directory, which holds an in progress version of my website. When I try to access through browser the login screen comes up, but will not accept my - or any of the other logins and passwords. Any advice appreciated

Thanks for the input,
It was set by a developer who at present is not contactable, do I just have to put new user/password in, or do I have to find where the old ones were set?

In your cPanel > Files section > Directory privacy, you should see the directory thats protected listed there. Select it. On next page you should see that user listed at bottom of page.Just above it, it should say this:

"To change a user’s password, add that user above with the new password."

So, you'd just add that same username above that, type in a new password, save, and you're off to the races.

Hi and thank you
I have however been through the directories, and can find none that are ticked as protected. when I do as described above the screen I get to just shows a list of folders/directories in the public_html directory
The text on the page reads:

Set a password to protect certain directories of your account. When you enable this feature, a user that tries to open a protected folder will be prompted to enter a username and password before they can access your content. For more information, read our documentation.

When I select a folder/directory from that screen,
the only text on the page is:

Security Settings

When a user attempts to access the protected directory through a browser, the site will prompt them to enter a username and password. The name that you choose for the protected directory will also display.
Cheers PK

Only when I select (open) that directory, there nothing in the directory listing that shows it is protected.
When I select it - it then shows that user name with the option to delete or change password.
that attached is the login that comes up through the browser.

There wouldn't be anything actually in the directory noting its password protected.

When I select it - it then shows that user name with the option to delete or change password.
There should also be an option at top of page you can uncheck that says:

"Password protect this directory."

Which should remove or add the protection to the directory. If you uncheck that and save, can you access the directory properly?
