Hi everyone. We're starting the initial planning stage for our next conference in 2008 and we need your help! If anyone has any suggestions for courses or anything they'd like to see presented, please let us know. We want to make sure next year's conference is as full of the information you want as we can make it.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Thanks

Well I'm not sure I can wait until next years conference but ... We'd like to know a whole lot about the cPanel implementation of RoR. In particular, exactly what /scripts/installruby does and then what "magically" becomes available in a clients cPanel.

Thanks for the suggestion. We're planning on having quite a bit of info regarding cPanel Server Suite (MS Windows version of cPanel).

Thanks for the suggestions so far!

3rd Party Apps

this list is not in any particular order:

  • Server Admin Basics-
  • : Apache
  • : Perl
  • : PHP
  • : Ruby
  • : Pear
  • : Yum
  • : SSH (Keys, etc.)
  • Debugging -
  • : How to Determine a DDOS
  • : CPU Usage
  • : High Load Issues
  • : mytop, top, netstat
  • MySQL -
  • : clustering
  • : phpmyadmin
  • : mytop
  • : my.cnf configurations
  • cPAddons -
  • : build your own
  • : Developing cPaddons
  • 3rd Party Plugins:
  • : LogView
  • : ASSP (be nice to show the few versions out there)
  • : CSF - Chirpy's Firewall
  • Security Certificates (SSL) -
  • : Exim
  • : Pop3 (Courier)
  • : cPanel, WHM, Webmail
  • : IMAP
  • : FTP
  • Themes:
  • : Create your own
  • : cPanel Plugins

I can add to this... but this should help you get started.
What I have learned from the other cPanel seminars is this.

--There really needs to be 3 days vs. 2
--There should be the ability to see the videos of the sessions ( YouTube Channel Maybe?)
--Tracks: (last event I believe was basic and advanced)
: Basic (New WHM/cPanel Basic User Stuff)
: Advanced (Advanced WHM/cPanel & /scripts options)
: Developer (cPAddons, etc... )

Thank you for the ability to give you our input.

I was hoping to find the date and location of the next Conf, has that been published?

Reading hostmedics post, and based on the schdule I saw from last year, I would also like to recommend the following:
This needs to be 3 day event vs. 2 day.
There should be the ability to see the videos of the sessions. I would like the option to buy them in an exit package.

Also, if you are going to take me away from home for a few days, why to Houston?

Why not to a real convention town? Vegas? Orlando? I have traveled to every major city in the USA numourous times and I can tell you that Houston is at the very bottom of my list of places that I like (only one point higher than Jackson, Mississippi.) If it must be in Texas; Austin, San Antonio and Dallas are far nicer than Houston, IMHO.

how to use a mouse...

being that they are showing how to use windows... i think many of us will need to learn how to use a mouse now...

ha ha

(is there even a command line to do most stuff there ? )

in all seriousness however -

I know these guys are stuck w/ thinking

2 vs 3 days due to the cost for most persons coming in... many are already paying 3 days due to flight etc...

On the other hand - people really should not worry about investing into their companies futures either...

as to why its in Houston - I believe this is due to location - location - location - is this not where cPanel lives now ? (guessing this is the case http://www.cpanel.net/company/employment.htm )

It would be a bit expensive on their end to fly everyone to another city ... and most likely that would need to get passed onto us...
