Thoughts on the best OS for install of a fresh cPanel instance on a VPS using AWS

Currently, cPanel offers two official AWS images on through the AWS marketplace

AWS Marketplace: cPanel

aws.amazon.com

• Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
• CentOS 7

What is the recommended OS for installation on the AWS platform? According to the following Q&A - https://support.cpanel.net/hc/en-us...long-will-cPanel-support-my-operating-system-

CentOS 7 is only supported until June 2024

It appears to me that AlmaLinux 8 with support up until 2029 is the best choice at the moment and is the longer-term predecessor of CentOS 7, any thoughts on this on the AWS platform?

At the moment cPanel doesn't have any images of the cPanel on AlmaLinux 8 on the AWS marketplace, I think it would be best to create your own image based on AlmaLinux 8 minimal install as recommended by cPanel on AWS, would anyone else agree with this assessment?

I think provisioning an AlmaLinux 8 minimal installation on AWS would be a great option if you're concerned about the EOL date of CentOS 7. If you face any issues installing cPanel on AlmaLinux 8, let us know and we would be happy to assist.
