I readily admit I have not looked much into cPanel Plugins created by 3rd party developers until today. I figured I would start looking for where I can check out these Plugins, see what they do, try out a Demo, and then possibly download and install them on my server.

I started within WHM, yet the only references to Plugins I found were these items in the left side menu:
  • cPanel -> Manage Plugins -- this page shows ClamAV and Munin and nothing else. There is no indication that other plugins exist or where I might download them.
  • Development -> cPanel Plugin File Generator -- this seems to be a dev/debug page for 3rd party devs
  • Plugins -> ConfigServer Security & Firewall -- I didn't realize this was a plugin.
So I figure the next best place to look for cPanel Plugins is going to be at cPanel.com. After poking around a bit, I try the "Resources" link at the top. However this page doesn't really show me a place to look for downloads. Finally in the lower right corner of the footer of the page in tiny grey text on a dark blue background I find "Application Catalog".

At last, I found a page that looks promising. However it looks like I'm one of the few who have discovered it, as few of the plugins have Reviews or much in the way of details. Many of them have broken Demos. Few have sufficient details or screenshots for me to even consider them.

Theory: Nobody can find cPanel Plugins, which means they are going largely unused and unsupported. There is little motivation to develop and maintain plugins because users won't be exposed to them.

Action Item #1: In the same vein as Wordpress and XenForo, can we have two new buttons added to the owner-facing WHM -> cPanel -> Manage Plugins page:

"Get More cPanel Plugins!" | "Upload cPanel Plugin (.gz)"

The first button would redirect users to https://applications.cpanel.com/ page.
The second button would allow owners to directly upload a GZIP package.

Action Item #2: Can we add 2-3 paragraphs of information at the top of the Plugins (Applications) page explaining what these are, how to install them, and where they show up in WHM?

Action Item #3: Can we get increased visibility of cPanel Plugins on the cPanel website and forums? This may necessitate kicking "deadbeat" plugins off the applications.cpanel.com site if enough negative reviews come in.

Thoughts?
