Confirmed.... just got an email from a customer saying that everything in /home is gone and replaced by .tar.gz files. I have not yet had the opportunity to see if these files contain the data that used to make up the accounts on the server, but suffice it to say that it's not good either way.

I have disabled the cpbackup script, I would suggest that anyone and everyone run /scripts/updatenow and /scripts/upcp on their servers.

Don't act like children - it's obvious english may not be his first language. I understood it perfectly. The backup script tarrs /home rendering the accounts five types of useless.

I've added a warning to not set your backup dir to /home in WHM (not sure why any one would do this in the first place though). I'll also add something to prevent you from making /home the backupdir.

Added checks preventing the backup dir being set to

1. /home
2. /usr
3. /var
4. A non dir (normal file)
5. A symlink

Hopefully this will prevent this from happening to anyone else.

Hmmm, you guys in Australia may be deeply involved with refugees and so on, but I don't think this forum is the place to air personal opinions (indirectly) or make personal remarks about other nationalities.

There may be some cases where you might actually want to put in / depending on your setup.. if you have some type of chroot going you might need this...

Just make sure its an empty harddrive .. The latest WHM should prevent you from putting anything that could be a bad thing in the destination. However there is no way to make it perfect (just like you can still login to a server and type rm -rf /)

I think that is the best way .. this would be usefull if you had a fatal harddrive failure on a main drive. Might take a while to rebuild with a new drive but you would have 99% of everything you would need as far as user data. Nice feature Nick

My bad for resurrecting this....

I need some feedback from everybody using this feature. Are you having 100% consistent results with it? Do you trust it with your life, on the boxes that are using it? Have you ever had it lag for weeks/months at a time?

The underlying problem here is: I don't have a clue where exactly the cpbackup.conf ties into, nor how /scripts/cpbackup ties in with anything whatsoever. I could be lazy as hell, or I could be completely missing something.

Can a developer or other genius who has seen the guts of this from start to finish comment on how exactly &cpbackup& functions? I don't have enough detail on this, and I am done trusting something this critical when I don't know 100% of what is happening behind the scenes or what could be tripping it up.

Please share feedback if you have time and/or any to spare
