What is the difference between backing up an account in WHM and full back-up in cPanel?

Hi all,

I've been using cPanel and WHM for VPS for quite a while, and I noticed that I can schedule back-up for an account in WHM. What's strange is that when I restore an account from WHM, my home dir and my databases are not restored. If I really want to back-up something, I need to go to cPanel and create a full back-up.

So what are the differences between backing up using WHM vs full back-up in cPanel? If backing up in WHM does not restore the home dir or databases, what does it actually do?

Thanks!

The Backup tools in cPanel are provided for your Clients to be able to backup their accounts when they need to. Say for example, he wanted to update his website software to a new version and not sure all is going to go as expected. He'd backup his site for safe keeping.

The Backup tools in WHM, are for backing up ALL Clients on the server. Say for example, the server dropped over dead for some reason. Without backups for all his Clients, that guy is now out of business, he has no backups. His Clients assumed he did, they didn't bother to backup on their own, and now everyone is mad.

Backups are very important to have of course.

Hi Infopro,

Thanks for the information! Does it mean WHM back-up will cover everything cPanel back-up does (assumed the configuration is proper?

Thank you again!!
