What non-systemd OS will cPanel/WHM support after CentOS 6 goes EOL?

Hi All,

CentOS 6 is going EOL November 30th, 2020. CentOS 7 uses systemd. I’m trying to future proof my server OS migration process.

I have already perused:

Installation Guide - System Requirements - Version 76 Documentation - cPanel Documentation

What OS does, or will, cPanel/WHM support that doesn't use systemd after CentOS 6 goes EOL?

So after approx 12/2020, we're out of luck?

Okay, seriously hate to ask, as I've been using cPanel a long time, and have no real desire to change... Offhand do you know which of your competitors will have a non-systemd offering?

Probably going to have a hard time finding any reputable distributions that continue to use init going forward.

I feel some of your pain, having been involved in the Linux community since the 90s, systemd is quite a different animal to me than init. But it's just part of the changing of times.

This is exactly why I asked for NO systemd discussion in this thread. Both of these statements are blatantly wrong. Seriously, what search terms did you try that came up with those as either rational or valid?

I understand your position as an employee of cPanel makes you want to obfuscate ‘negative’ answers, but it’s not like the loss of the 1-2k per year I spend on cPanel/WHM products is going to cripple the company.

If the answer is “none,” please just say so.

I understand your point of view, but ultimately cPanel & WHM is designed to work on the CentOS/RedHat operating system environment. To depart from that and offer support for other operating systems would be a major undertaking. That said, if there's a specific operating system (that doesn't use systemd) you'd like to see supported, I encourage you to open a feature request for it at:

I took at look at the OS requirements for other control panels, but was unable to find one that supported an OS that doesn't make use of systemd (aside from CentOS 6 support and Windows).

Thank you Michael (@cPanelMichael) for taking the time to look that up.

I have no dog in the fight as to which specific OS to support. I truly like Devuan as a desktop (w/TDE), and have seen hosting firms offering Devuan on servers, but I’d guess most likely a yum based OS would be best/easiest for cPanel...

Thanks for providing the link (as I wouldn’t have thought to do that), I’ve created the feature request at:

If anyone has a specific yum, or other, OS to recommend, that would be the place to add it.
